Several Saskatoon neighbourhood parks will receive upgrades this season as part of the City’s Park Upgrade Program. In a news release, the City said the program provides funds for established parks to address “deficiencies and brings them up to current standards.” Upgrades can include new or improved pathways, lighting, upgraded irrigation and drainage systems, tree planting, naturalized landscaping, and other amenities such as beaches, picnic tables and play structures. Parks scheduled for upgrades this year include Forest Grove Linkage and Ernest Lindner Park. Playgrounds scheduled for upgrades are Lt. Gen. G.G. Simonds Park, Idylwyld Park and Szumagalski Park. Drainage upgrades are scheduled for nine parks: “Please note that portions of these parks and some amenities will be temporarily closed during construction, and while newly planted areas are established,” the City says. Upgrades to Ernest Lindner Park are being funded from the Government of Canada through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. Funding from the Government of Canada’s Natural Infrastructure Fund is supporting the majority of the park drainage projects as well.
