A 47-year-old Sarnia man is facing multiple firearms-related charges after a suspected shotgun discharge damaged a parked vehicle in the city’s north end, police say. The investigation began on the morning of July 23 when the Sarnia Police Service received a report at about 8:50 a.m. from a resident in the 1100 block of Overlea Crescent. The resident had discovered multiple holes in the rear driver’s-side door of a vehicle parked at the property. While investigating, officers learned that several area residents had heard what they believed was a gunshot at about 10:40 p.m. the previous evening. Police attended the scene and determined the damage to the vehicle was consistent with a shotgun discharge. Investigators were able to establish the likely direction of the shot. They also found shotgun wadding and shell components in the front yard of a nearby home. According to police, the physical evidence was consistent with a discharged .410-gauge shotgun shell and matched the trajectory of the damage found on the vehicle. As the investigation continued, officers used a search warrant at a residence in the area. During the search, police seized six firearms, including a Winchester Model 37A .410-bore shotgun, along with .410-gauge and .22-calibre ammunition. Investigators also located a spent .410-gauge shotgun shell casing inside the home. Police allege the shotgun was discharged from the accused’s property, causing damage to the parked vehicle. No injuries were reported. Investigators said they were unable to determine a motive for the incident. A 47-year-old Sarnia man was arrested and charged with: Police have not released the identity of the accused. The charges have not been tested in court.
