Second Saskatoon overpass struck by semi with oversized load

For the second time in a week a Saskatoon overpass has been struck by a semi carrying a load that exceeded the bridge’s maximum height allowance.

The overpass on 108^th Street over Circle Drive was hit Wednesday around 5:00 p.m. A semi hauling an excavator on a flatbed was seen parked on the side of the road near the overpass.

The last update from the City says structural engineers were on the scene immediately, and confirmed the overpass is safe for use. Police were also on scene questioning the truck driver.

The northbound curb lane on Circle Drive was closed while debris was cleared, causing a kilometres-long traffic jam on Circle Drive.

Drivers are asked to follow all posted signs and detours in the area.

The City says it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates when they become available.

One week ago a semi with a trailer hauling heavy equipment collided with an overpass at the Circle Drive, Highway 11 and Highway 16 cloverleaf in the city’s southeast. Traffic restrictions remain in place until repairs on the overpass are completed.
