Saskatoon Sportscard and Collectible show marks first event of the year

The first Saskatoon Sportscard and Collectible show of 2026 proved that the new year may have drawn in some new collectors.

“I’m not sure what it is, but it’s been very busy today. And, you never know with January, after Christmas, people are going away...I don’t know, just a lot of people coming out,” Sharon Sullivan, the event organizer, said.

The monthly event draws in collectors who are looking to buy and sell a variety of memorabilia at Saskatoon’s Centre Mall.

“We have everything from vintage to signed jerseys to football to Pokémon, just about everything under the sun that is collectible,” Sullivan said.

Hundreds of people perused through the rows of collectibles. Sullivan said while there is quite a selection, the sports cards often draw a crowd.

“The old vintage cards are really popular as well. You’re looking at cards from the 1930s hockey and ’40s, ’50s hockey. So it’s really exciting for a lot of people. And the older folks to come in and say ‘I remember these cards when I was a kid’, so it’s really nice to have that kind of atmosphere,” Sullivan said.

As the 2026 Winter Olympics draw near, the event highlights a number of special cards which will be released to mark the occasion.

“Tim Hortons puts out Olympic cards, but certainly a lot of players representing Canada, and we have exceptional hockey players and not just the men but the women as well,” Sullivan said.
