Emergency crews from Whitewood in addition to Kahkewistahaw and Cowessess First Nations worked together Tuesday afternoon to battle a bush and pasture fire in the area. At around 2:20 p.m. crews from the three communities were called to the blaze. In a post to social media, Whitewood Fire Department said the difficult terrain forced firefighters to use quick response trucks, ATV’s and hand tools. “Eventually a dozer and grader were brought in to push a perimeter,” the post said. “Firefighters were able to finally contain the fire and keep it from spreading into the valley or to any buildings.” Crews from the Whitewood Fire Department were disengaged by 9:10 p.m. The department also made sure to thank a resident who brought food to firefighters. There’s no word on what caused the fire, or an estimate of damages.
