Sask. inmate back behind bars over a year after escaping custody

An inmate who escaped custody near Duck Lake just over a year ago is back behind bars.

Albert McKay escaped from the Willow Cree Healing Lodge on the Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation on March 1 of 2025.

McKay was serving a sentence of just over three years, two months at the minimum security federal institution for break and enter and assault.

McKay was arrested by RCMP in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba Monday afternoon.

The Correctional Service of Canada and Willow Cree Healing Lodge are investigating the circumstances around his escape.
