Sask. First Nation mom gives birth to Saskatoon’s first baby of 2026

A Canoe Lake First Nation mother gave birth to Saskatoon’s first baby of the new year early Thursday morning.

Emelia Rose Ava Iron was born at 1:11 a.m. on Jan. 1 at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) said in a news release sent Thursday evening.

According to the SHA, the baby girl weighed three pounds, 14 ounces and is Emily’s first child.

The SHA says both the mom and her newborn daughter are doing fine.
