The Saskatchewan Roughriders are making sure the left side of their offensive line is fortified for the foreseeable future. The team announced Tuesday its signed standout left tackle Payton Collins to a contract extension through the 2027 season. Financial terms were not revealed. Collins, a 6′7, 300 pounder from Columbus, Ohio, joined the Riders in May 2025, earning the starting left tackle spot as a rookie. It was a rookie season to remember, as he was named the team’s Most Outstanding Rookie and helped lead the team to a Grey Cup win. In announcing the extension, the Riders credit Collins for playing a big role in the success of both the teams’ passing and running games. “His work up front has helped Trevor Harris lead the league with 5,370 passing yards, while his power in the run game has helped Tommy Stevens set franchise and league records for rushing touchdowns and rushing touchdowns by a quarterback,” the team noted in a media release. Prior to joining the Riders, Collins played six seasons of college ball at Eastern Kentucky, twice being named an All-American.
