RCMP issue 181 tickets, suspend 47 licences during safety blitz in northern Sask. 

Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic Services removed 47 drivers from the road during a five‑day traffic safety initiative in northern Saskatchewan, including 25 motorists who had drugs in their system.

The checks took place from March 4 to March 8 around the La Ronge RCMP detachment area, RCMP said in a news release.

RCMP say as part of their third phase of traffic safety initiative, officers from Yorkton and Saskatoon Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan units gathered to remove impaired drivers from the road and remind motorists of safe driving practices.

During the five days, police say they checked 275 drivers for impairment. The checks resulted in three licence suspensions for alcohol consumption before driving, 25 suspensions for drug consumption before driving, and 16 suspensions for driving without a valid licence.

Two drivers were charged with impaired driving, and one driver was charged with refusing to provide a breath sample.

Police also issued 204 warnings and 181 tickets, about one‑third of those for speeding.
