Prince Albert’s new leisure facility officially opens

Prince Albert’s new Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre is officially open.

Following a soft opening in late August, the City of Prince ALbert cut the ribbon on the aquatic facility Friday morning.

“This facility will encourage active living, which we know, contributes to positive mental and physical health,” said Mayor Bill Powalinsky. “It will support teamwork, sport, competition, community gathering opportunities.”

Construction on the project began in 2022. The centre opened gradually throughout 2025, beginning with the twin rinks earlier this year.

The 47,000 square foot aquatic area’s waterslides, wave pool and lane pool are now open for use.

“You’ll see that there’s a whole bunch of new technology, a whole bunch of innovations that you will not see in other places in the province,” added Powalinsky.

The $117 million dollar project is partially funded through a $20 million commitment from the province, and $24 million from the federal government. The City of Prince Albert will cover the remaining $73 million.

The City says this is the largest recreational infrastructure project in Prince Albert’s history. The project began under a previous municipal government and former mayor Greg Dionne.

“This took ten years,” said Dionne at the grand opening. “When you finally get to the end of the road, you see what we built for the kids. You didn’t build this for me. We built this for kids and my grandkids and the future. The community is going to be great with this facility.”

Lake Country Co-op secured naming rights for 25 years, thanks to a $10 million dollar contribution to the project. The Prince Albert Kinsmen Club is the title sponsor for the wave pool with a $450,000 commitment.
