Police arrest suspect in La Ronge shooting

Saskatchewan RCMP say a man wanted in connection with a shooting in La Ronge has been arrested.

Sampson Roberts, 27, was taken into custody Wednesday following a week-long search for him.

At around 2:45 p.m., on June 11, officers responded to a report of a shooting on the northern community of Bird Place.

Police say an altercation between two men outside a home led to one of them firing a gun, injuring the other. The victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect left the scene in a vehicle he had taken from the location. The vehicle was later recovered, but Roberts remained at large until his arrest.

Roberts is facing several charges, including discharging a firearm with intent, robbery with a firearm and multiple weapons offences.

He is scheduled to appear in La Ronge provincial court on June 18.
