The Saskatoon Public Schools Board of Education has approved the name Holmwood Collegiate for the newest high school in the city’s northeast. The school will be built in Saskatoon’s Holmwood area, adjacent to the Brighton neighbourhood. It will share a site with a future Catholic high school. A future leisure centre is also planned for the area. The provincial government announced funding for the new school in March 2024. “Choosing a name for a new school is an important milestone,” says Kim Stranden, Chair of the Saskatoon Public Schools Board of Education. “We’re grateful to everyone who took the time to share their ideas and perspectives.” The public and students weighed in on a name for the school this spring. Saskatoon Public Schools gathered feedback through a public survey, and activities with Grades 4-6 students from feeder schools – students who currently attend elementary schools and are expected to attend Holmwood Collegiate. The school is currently in the design phase. Construction is expected to begin in 2027 – pending government approvals – and welcome students in four to five years. Saskatoon Public Schools is the largest school division in the province, with around 29,000 students and over 3,300 staff attending and working at 48 elementary schools and 10 high schools.
