Murder charge laid in connection to suspicious death on Sask. First Nation

A 24‑year‑old man from Waterhen First Nation has been charged with second‑degree murder following a suspicious death in the community.

In an update sent Saturday afternoon, Saskatchewan RCMP said Skye Lasas was arrested on Jan. 30 — hours after the investigation began.

Lasas is facing one count of second‑degree murder.

Officers were called around 8:45 a.m. on Jan. 30 after Meadow Lake RCMP received a report of an injured man at a home in the community — about 300 kilometres northwest of Prince Albert.

Officers arrived to find a seriously injured man, who was later pronounced dead by EMS at the scene.

The victim has been identified as a 37‑year‑old man from Waterhen First Nation. RCMP said his family has been notified and victim services are being offered.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time. RCMP said the victim and accused knew each other.

Lasas is scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on Feb. 2.
