The Saskatchewan Huskies saw some history made on the football field Saturday in the form of some new records set by star receiver Daniel Wiebe. Wiebe caught seven passes for two touchdowns to set new program records for single-season and career receiving touchdowns as the Huskies downed the Manitoba Bisons 31-12. The new touchdown records from Wiebe means he passes former Huskies receiver Mitch Hillis for all-time receiving touchdowns. Saskatchewan dominated the game on both sides of the ball, with Quarterback Jake Farrell throwing for 200 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Huskies defence had a solid performance that included a fumble recovery returned all the way for a touchdown by Lucas Scheck. With the win, the Saskatchewan Huskies finished in first place in the Canada West conference with a 7-1 record and will have home field advantage in the conference playoffs. It’s the first time since 2022 the Huskies have finished with the best regular season record. Saskatchewan will now prepare to host the UBC thunderbirds in the semi-finals this weekend. The Huskies beat UBC both times they met during the regular season, with the dogs outscoring the Thunderbirds by a combined 75-24. The playoffs may be extra exciting this year, as the Vanier Cup will be played in Saskatchewan at Mosaic Stadium in Regina next month. Kickoff for Saturday’s conference semi-final is slated for 2 p.m. at Griffiths Stadium.
