Canada’s Governor General will be in Saskatchewan later this month for the 150th commemoration of the signing of Treaty 6. Her Excellency the Right Honourable Louise Arbour will attend the event at Fort Carlton Provincial Historic Park in Duck Lake on Aug. 23, where she’ll deliver some short remarks during the festivities. The Treaty is an agreement between the Canadian Crown and Assiniboine, Plains and Woods Cree and other First Nations. Treaty 6 covers about 300,000 square kilometres in Alberta and Saskatchewan, including Edmonton and Saskatoon. TheTreaty 6 commemoration runs Aug. 20 to Aug. 23 in Fort Carlton. The event will include traditional ceremonies, outdoor programming and the unveiling of a Treaty 6 150th commemorative monument.
