Four Brighton homes evacuated due to gas leak

Four houses in Saskatoon’s Brighton neighbourhood were evacuated after a gas leak on Tuesday morning.

An auger hit a two-inch plastic gas main while a contractor was drilling piles near 526 Underhill Link. SaskEnergy crews were called to the scene at about 11 a.m.

Gas blew from the damaged line for about an hour before SaskEnergy crews dug up the pipe and squeezed off the line, a spokesperson with the energy company said.

No one was injured.

Only one of the four evacuated homes was occupied. The remaining three were under construction, according to SaskEnergy. Construction crews were removed from the scene.

A total of seven homes lost natural gas service because of the leak.

Gas was restored around 3:30 p.m.
