Elderly man killed after being hit by vehicle on Sask. Cree Nation

An 18-year-old man is facing multiple charges after an elderly man was killed after being hit by a vehicle on Monday evening.

In a news release on Wednesday, the Saskatchewan RCMP said the incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. on Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation.

Police say the pedestrian, a 62-year-old man from Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. His family has been notified.

At around 1:10 a.m. on Tuesday, police arrested the driver of the vehicle at a nearby home.

Anthony Gamble from Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation is charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired and causing death, failing to stop after an accident resulting in death and dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death.

Gamble appeared in court on Wednesday.

The RCMP says officers continue to investigate with the help of a collision reconstructionist.
