U SPORTS Curling Championships return to Regina after 14 Years

More than 30 men’s and women’s university and college curling teams start round-robin play in Regina.

The 2026 U SPORTS national curling championships are officially underway in Regina, with 32 university and college teams from across Canada competing for the title.

The event kicked off with opening ceremonies at the Callie Curling Club, combining two tournaments: the U SPORTS University Curling Championships and the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Curling Championships.

Sixteen men’s and 16 women’s teams begin a round-robin series today, with the top teams advancing to the playoffs on Saturday.

It has been 14 years since the championships were last held in Regina. Past participants have gone on to compete in the Brier, the Scotties, and even the Winter Olympics.

“I kind of grew up in a curling family. My mom and dad both played competitively, and many of my relatives did as well,” said Chloe Johnston, skip of the University of Regina Cougars women’s team. “For me, skipping was the easiest way to get into the sport, and I really enjoy it.”

The event is a key milestone for the curlers at the university.

“It’s a nice bridge between junior competition and men’s and women’s play,” said Haylee Jameson, chair of the host committee.

Thursday evening is student and alumni night, with fans encouraged to attend at the Callie Curling Club to cheer on the U of R men’s and women’s teams.

The 2026 U Sports and Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association national curling championships run Feb. 17-21 at the Callie Curling Club in Regina.
