Saskatchewan’s minimum wage is no longer the lowest in the country

Those making minimum wage in Saskatchewan are due for a pay bump today – as the pay figure officially rises to $15.35.

The change officially came into effect Oct. 1. With the 35-cent increase, Saskatchewan has overtaken Alberta, which now sits at $15 – the lowest minimum wage in the country.

The province says it calculates the minimum wage using an indexation formula that gives equal weight to changes to the consumer price index and the average hourly wage for Saskatchewan.

In 2007, Saskatchewan’s minimum wage was $7.95. In 2022, the province began making incremental changes leading to a rise from $11.81 to $15 in 2024.

As of Oct. 1, Nunavut maintains the highest minimum wage in the country at $19.75.
