Saskatchewan has ranked second in Canada for container return rate to SARCAN in 2024-25. According to the province, Saskatchewan residents collected and recycled 491.6 million containers in 2024-25 through SARCAN, achieving an 82.6 per cent return rate, above the 76 per cent national average. That accounts for more than 43 million pounds of recyclable material being kept out of Saskatchewan landfills. “At the core of our partnership with the province of Saskatchewan is our shared dedication to building sustainable communities across Saskatchewan,” SARCAN executive director Amy McNeil said. “As an inclusive employer with a team of over 900 SARCAN recyclers in 65 communities, we are excited to continue our important mission of sustainable and social development.” The Ministry of Environment provides more than $37 million to SARCAN, with the 2026-27 budget seeing an increase of $117,000 in grant payments through the Beverage Container Collection and Recycling Program.
