A 55-year-old man from Caledon was killed early Monday in a single-vehicle collision involving a pickup truck on Highway 17 about 50 kilometres east of Nipigon. Police responded around 4:30 a.m. to reports of the crash near Mountain Bay Road, about 24 kilometres from Rossport. “One individual, a 55-year-old male from Caledon was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Oct. 19. “Another individual was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.” A section of Highway 17 between Nipigon and Schreiber was closed for several hours while the OPP conducted an investigation.
