The mayor of Wolfville, N.S., says the community is feeling the impact of a fatal collision early Sunday morning. An 18-year-old man died and four others were injured after police attempted a traffic stop. “(It’s) homecoming weekend, people are here having a good time. To have that be the way the weekend ends is just sad,” says Mayor Jodi MacKay. “Any loss of life is tragic, but when you’re so young and have so much ahead of you, I can only imagine what the families and parents are feeling. It can’t be easy.” Police haven’t released any of the identities and Nova Scotia RCMP declined a request for comment, as the investigation gets underway by the Serious Incident Response Team. MacKay says speeding has been an issue in the area. “If we look at all of the calls that we get for first responders, a lot of them are speeding related accidents on the highways and things like that,” she says. “The community of Wolfville has always got a big heart. I’m sure they’re feeling it deeply and sending out their best wishes and prayers for the families and friends of those that have been lost and those that are still fighting to get well.” For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page
