CTV News is your Alberta Referendum headquarters. Live results. Expert analysis. Everything you need to know is here. One of several Alberta groups advocating for separation gathered in Calgary’s East Village Monday night for a referendum event. “Let Alberta Decide” supporters were expected to start arriving around 7 p.m. The group officially launched their campaign as a third-party advertiser exactly four months ago. From the outset, organizers admitted it would be an uphill battle to convince people Alberta separation is a viable and necessary way forward. Since then, the group and its volunteers crossed the province, holding rallies and speaking to people about what a sovereign Alberta could look like. That included a rally on the steps of the legislature on Saturday, when people waved Alberta flags and called for voters to choose Option 2 in Monday’s referendum. Those who are a part of the group say that regardless of Monday’s outcome, the campaign has been a success. “I’ve said that publicly that I think we’ve won. We’ve won in the sense that the goal was to have a serious, adult discussion about how Alberta’s place can be improved within Confederation,” said Let Alberta Decide co-chair Keith Wilson, “even if that means the risk that we go all the way and hold a second vote in the future for secession.” A crowd was expected to arrive at the invite-only event around 7 p.m., though the first results wouldn’t start arriving until hours later.
