Roughriders sign trio of new players

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are moving to offseason mode, signing three new players to the roster.

Coming off their recent Grey Cup victory, the Saskatchewan Roughriders have been busy signing a trio of players: national defensive back Gideon Agyei, American defensive end Chico Bennett Jr., and national wide receiver D’Sean Mimbs.

Agyei, who is six foot two and 189 pounds, was drafted 52nd overall by the Roughriders in the sixth round of the 2025 CFL Draft. He attended training camp before returning to school.

Over five seasons with the University of Calgary Dinos, Agyei played 29 games, recording 70 tackles, two interceptions (one for a TD), and 17 pass deflections. At the 2025 CFL Combine, he ran a 4.59-second 40-yard dash, had 16 bench press reps, and posted a 4.27-second shuttle.

Bennett Jr, who is six foot four and 256 pounds, played two regular-season games for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Weeks 20 and 21, recording two defensive tackles. He previously attended rookie mini-camp with the Philadelphia Eagles.

In college, Bennett Jr. spent three seasons with the Virginia Cavaliers (2022-24), totaling 107 tackles (21 for loss), eight sacks, three forced fumbles, two recoveries, and one interception in 33 games. In 2022, he earned All-ACC Honorable Mention with 34 tackles, seven sacks, and two forced fumbles. He also played two seasons at Georgia Tech (2019-20), registering 31 tackles and one sack in 15 games.

Mimbs, who is six foot one and 180 pounds, was drafted 50th overall by the Roughriders in 2024. In 2025, he played four games, recording one catch for five yards.

At the University of Regina (2020-24), Mimbs played 32 games, catching 130 passes for 1,717 yards and 10 touchdowns. He led the Rams in receptions and receiving yards in 2023 and 2024, helping them reach the Mitchell Bowl. In 2021, he set a program record for most touchdown catches by a first-year player and was named the Rams’ Male Rookie of the Year.
