Roughriders’ Brett Lauther out with back injury against RedBlacks

The Riders will have a new placekicker Friday, since Brett Lauther is out with a back injury. Donovan Maess has the details.

Saskatchewan Roughriders’ kicker Brett Lauther is ruled out for Friday night’s game in Ottawa against the RedBlacks.

The Riders, making the kicker’s game status official with the release of its injury report Wednesday afternoon.

Lauther, 34, has made 31/45 or 68.9 per cent of his kicks in 14 games this season. His longest make is 59 yards in Week 11 against Hamilton.

In his place, back-up Campbell Fair will be Saskatchewan’s kicker.

The University of Ottawa product will make his Canadian Football League debut in the same city he played out his USports career.

In 36 starts with the Gee-Gees from 2018-24, Fair was 62/88 (70 per cent), making 80 extra-point attempts and scoring 266 points in his collegiate career.

A timeline on Lauther’s return is unknown at this time.
