The Saskatchewan Roughriders will be decked out in two previously unseen jerseys this season, based on teasers in the team’s uniform schedule release. The regular home jerseys will be worn for the season opener against BC on Saturday, along with three other games this season. Apparent newcomer number one is known only as the “Prairie Blizzard” jerseys, white uniforms set to be worn in Week 4 against the Toronto Argonauts in what is technically an Argos home game due to the FIFA World Cup. A teaser image shows a Rider logo with partially inverted colours to contain significantly more white. They’ll be worn for only one game. The Rider Nation Alternate, also known by fans as the obsidian jerseys, will be coming out for two games in Week 8 and Week 13. The standard home uniforms will be worn with the Indigenous logo helmets in Week 18 against the Calgary Stampeders on Oct. 2, following the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30. As has become tradition, the Riders will be wearing their retro uniforms for one game, the Labour Day Classic against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Sept. 6, but a new variant of the throwbacks will take the field later in the season for a special tribute. The Riders will mark 60 years since the team’s first Grey Cup win in 1966 on Oct. 17 against the Montreal Alouettes, wearing what the team calls “1966 Grey Cup Tribute Uniforms.” A teaser image shows different striping from the retro uniforms, apparently modelled after the uniforms the team wore in 1966, but other details on the jerseys are unknown. The Riders last wore season-accurate 1966-inspired green jerseys in 2009 as part of the Reebok CFL Retro program.
