Regina hosts first annual reggae fest

While Labour Day weekend saw the Roughriders and Blue Bombers facing off as the headline attraction in Regina, a new event just down the road hopes to be a new tradition that the city can host.

For the first time in Regina’s history, “Reggae Fest” got underway at Victoria Park on Sunday.

A group of around ten organizers are making sure that Reggae Fest is here to stay for years to come.

“To be honest, this just came about from a group of us here that we just decided that we wanted to bring live music to the city of Regina,” said Lindsay Cottin, one of the organizers and dancers at Reggae Fest.

The event included performances from local reggae artists, as well as dances, Caribbean and African cuisine, and cultural items.

“Reggae is a way that brings the community together,” Cottin added.

“Around the world, there are different types to present reggae rhythms to one another, but it’s a rhythm that brings everyone together as one. We just wanted to showcase that it doesn’t matter where you’re from or what your culture is.”

Although reggae is somewhat new to Regina in terms of popularity, organizers hope that the festival can be an annual tradition in the community.
