The Woolkeepers of Saskatchewan, the latest in The Fabric of Canada mini-documentary series, premiered on Tuesday at Government House.

The documentary features stories about Canadian wool and Canadians working in the wool industry. With wool prices struggling, there is a growing interest in finding new ways to make wool more valuable, not just for farmers but for those looking to turn it into something more.

“It’s important to be able to find value-added products so the farmers can get a good price for their clip,” said Matthew Rowe, CEO of Campaign For Wool Canada and the Canadian Wool Council. “But also, it’s important for the artisans and manufacturers to create high performing products.”

Hosted by Lieutenant Governor Bernadette McIntyre, the event was held in celebration of Wool Month, an initiative begun by the Campaign For Wool in 2020. It is now observed internationally in 13 countries.

The Campaign For Wool Canada is a global initiative launched by King Charles III to promote wool’s natural, renewable and biodegradable benefits.

“I created a nice green cable scarf for the King out of a nice green alpaca yarn, and for the Queen I made a lace scarf that was knit from a Merino yarn in a beautiful blue that reminds me of the sky,” said Mariette Anderson, a master knitter from Gravelbourg.
