Moose Jaw man sentenced to 4 months in relation to dog death

A Moose Jaw man has been convicted of a criminal offence in connection with the death of a dog more than two years ago.

Animal Protection Services of Saskatchewan says the man was sentenced on Dec. 16, 2025, to four months in jail for an incident that occurred on or about Sept. 15, 2023.

According to the organization, the man was convicted under Section 445.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code or causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to animals.

The incident saw a dog in the man’s care die as the result of asphyxiation.

The Animal Protection Services of Saskatchewan Inc. was created in 2015 to oversee the enforcement of the province’s Animal Protection Act, which was previously handled by a division of the Saskatchewan SPCA.
