High winds, blowing snow forecasted for much of southern Sask.

Southern Saskatchewan sees reduced visibility due to blowing snow caused by winds and flurries.

Those across the southern half of the province should brace themselves as the recent warm spell looks to be at its end – bringing a wave of harsh winter conditions in its stead.

A wind warning is currently in place for the province’s southwest, including Swift Current and Maple Creek, with gusts exceeding 90km/h forecasted.

Winds are expected to pick up overnight Tuesday into Wednesday afternoon. The strong winds, combined with pockets of flurries will lead to areas of near-zero visibilities with blowing snow, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).

Snow squall watches are also active in the southwest – while blowing snow watches have been issued for the rest of the affected areas, which include Regina, Saskatoon, Estevan and Yorkton.
