Here’s how Saskatchewan’s Olympians are ranked as Winter Games enter 2nd week

As the Winter Olympic Games in Milano Cortina enter their ninth day, members of Team Canada hailing from Saskatchewan continue to give their all.

Regina’s Mark McMorris is now ranked third overall following the qualifying run for men’s snowboard slopestyle.

The longtime fixture of Canadian snowboarding took a nasty tumble during training for the big air event on Feb. 4. According to the Canadian Olympic Committee, McMorris suffered a concussion, bone bruising near his pelvis, and an abdominal strain in the crash.

McMorris was only cleared to resume competing on Feb. 12, just ahead of the slopestyle qualifiers.

The men’s slopestyle finals will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

Logan Pletz, the skier also from Regina, finished up his trio of biathlon events on Sunday. In the men’s 12.5 kilometre pursuit Pletz put up his best performance, ranking 53rd.

Saskatoon’s Maia Schwinghammer capped off her first Olympic performance with an 11th place finish in women’s dual moguls on Saturday.

Schwinghammer had previously finished just shy of the podium, securing fifth place in women’s moguls.

Saskatoon’s Emily Clark and the Canadian women’s hockey team continue to push forward recording five wins and one loss ahead of the semifinals. The penultimate matchup is scheduled for Monday at 10:40 a.m.

Similarly, the men’s squad, with netminder Darcy Kuemper and forward Brandon Hagel, finished off the preliminary round of their tournament Sunday with a 10-2 victory against France.

The “Premier of Saskatchewan” as he’s known by his teammates, lead Ben Herbert and the rest of Team Canada’s curling squad continue to battle it out amid controversy following their matchup with Sweden on Friday.

The squad has recorded three wins and a loss so far into competition.

The squad is set to face off against China on Sunday.
