Daren Anderson, deputy city manager and chief financial officer for the City of Regina, has given notice of his resignation. The City confirmed Anderson’s resignation in a statement issued just after 12 p.m. “Daren brought extraordinary expertise to his role and was instrumental in navigating two challenging budget cycles,” the statement read. “We thank him for his hard work and wish him the best in his new opportunity. The City and Daren have worked on a transition plan to ensure continuity and stability.” Prior to the City’s confirmation, two sources confirmed to CTV News that city council received word of Anderson’s resignation earlier this week. The city has not confirmed when Anderson’s time in administration will end. Originally taking over from former deputy city manager Barry Lacey in January 2025, Anderson has spent less than 16 months in the role. During his tenure, council passed property tax increases of 7.3 per cent in 2025 and 10.9 per cent in 2026 – the two highest single-year increases in the city’s history. With Anderson’s impending exit, the City will be without permanent appointees for its top two positions. Former city manager Niki Anderson was fired in July 2025. According to the City, her termination was without cause, and she was paid a severance. Following the 2026 State of the City Address, Mayor Chad Bachynski told reporters a third party agency was in the early stages of its search for a new city manager.
