A 24-year-old man is facing charges after attempting to flee police in a stolen vehicle in eastern Ontario over the weekend. According to Ontario Provincial Police, officers were advised of a stolen utility van from Kingston at around noon on Saturday. A little while later, officers received a traffic complaint about a vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 401. “Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop and fled the area,” OPP said in a news release Monday. Grenville OPP officers attempted to intercept the vehicle using a tire deflation device. The vehicle then came to a safe stop on the highway near Augusta. The suspect driver from Bowmanville, Ont. has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, flight from a police officer, dangerous operation, breach of recognizance and driving while under suspension. The suspect was held for bail and later released for a court date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville in September.
