Sunshine returns after record-breaking rainfall in Ottawa

The sun will return to Ottawa today, after record-breaking rainfall soaked the capital.

Environment Canada says 58.6 mm of rain was recorded at the Ottawa Airport on Tuesday, the greatest one-day rainfall on Oct. 7 in Ottawa’s history. The previous record was 26.8 mm of rain on Oct. 7, 2005.

The 56.8 mm of rain comes after Ottawa saw no rain through the first six days of October and only received 31.5 mm of rain in September.

Fall weather returns

It will feel like fall in Ottawa today after above-seasonal temperatures through the first two weeks of fall.

The forecast calls for a mainly sunny start to the day, then increasing cloudiness this morning and a 30 per cent chance of afternoon showers. High 15 C.

Thursday will be sunny. High 12 C.

Friday will be mainly sunny. High 16 C.

The outlook for Saturday calls for sunshine. High 19 C.

Sunday will see a mix of sun and cloud. High 18 C.

The normal temperatures for this time of year are a high of 14 C and a low of 5 C.

The temperature warmed up to 19.1 C on Tuesday.

Ottawa saw record-breaking temperatures on Sunday and Monday, with highs of 29.9 C on Sunday and 29.3 C on Monday.
