Summer lane closure in effect on Hwy. 417 starting Monday

Motorists may need to brace for delays as another summer lane closure on a part of the Queensway through downtown Ottawa will go into effect on Monday.

Earlier this month, contractor Kiewit Dufferin Midtown Partnership (KDMP), retained by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, announced it would be implementing traffic control measures on Highway 417 between Island Park Drive and Kent Street to resume construction on the final leg of the Rapid Bridge Replacement project.

Starting Monday, the rightmost lane of eastbound Highway 417 will be closed from Carling Avenue to the Rochester Avenue off-ramp.

There will also be temporary lane closures, ramp closures and traffic staging in the eastbound and westbound directions between Island Park Drive and Kent Street during the construction period, KDMP says.

The work is expected to last until late summer.

KDMP says the work planned for this summer includes the replacement of the noise barrier wall along the 417, in addition to other improvements to the highway and surrounding streets.

Work to replace aging overpasses over the Queensway began in 2021. Some of the other remaining work includes tree clearing, retaining wall resurfacing, electrical work and drainage improvements.
