Stittsville’s Carp Road Flea Market is closing its doors this fall after more than 50 years in business. The flea market on Carp Road is open every Sunday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. In a post on Facebook, officials announced “with heavy hearts” that the flea market will close at the end of September. “After over 50 years in business, due to many reasons, Stittsville’s locally owned and operated, Kondruss Gallery/Stittsville’s Carp Road Flea Market/Barbie Museum will be closing its doors,” said the post, signed by the Stittsville’s Carp Road Flea Market Vendor Family. “From all of the vendors (past and present) and the owners, we want to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for supporting local and keeping the Flea Market life alive and well! In times like these Flea Markets are needed more than ever and we all became a family!” The owners of the building say they made the decision to sell it because of a long-term construction project in the area that will impact accessibility to the market. Longtime vendors inside the building say it’s the end of an era but are hoping the flea market can find another lifeline. “It’s very sad. We’re all crushed, but at the same time, we’re also looking at the silver lining,” said vendor Melissa Pacey of Mel’s Marbles. “They have closed now twice. Both locations, 20-ish odd years each, so who knows, maybe a third for another 20-ish odd years.” Some vendors say they will either close their booths up for good or try to open at other flea markets in the region, including one in Morrisburg or across the border into Quebec. Indoor vendors will be on site every Sunday until the end of September, while the outdoor market will remain open until the end of October.
