Remembrance Day schedule changes in Ottawa

CTV News Ottawa looks at what’s open and closed in Ottawa on Remembrance Day.

Retail locations

Ottawa’s Remembrance Day Bylaw requires most retail businesses and grocery stores to remain closed until 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 11.

All malls, Tanger Outlets, big box stores and large grocery stores must remain closed until 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. All LCBO and Beer Stores will open at 12:30 p.m.

Exemptions include:

• Food/grocery, tobacco, antique and handicraft stores with less than 2,400 sq. ft. in total area used for serving/selling to the public.
• Pharmacies with less than 7,500 sq. ft. in the total area used for serving/selling to the public.
• Book/newspaper dealers which store is less than 2,400 square feet in the total area used for serving/selling to the public.
• Convenience stores.
• Gasoline/fuel stations.

Transit Service

• OC Transpo will maintain regular transit service on Remembrance Day on all bus routes and the O-Train lines.
• In downtown Ottawa, routes 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19 and 20 will be detoured due to road closures on Rideau and Elgin streets between 6:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
• Additional detours on routes 11, 39, 61, 84 and 163 will be required for road closures during community ceremonies across Ottawa.

Veterans wearing their medals or uniforms or presenting ID can ride OC Transpo buses, all O-Train Lines and Para Transpo vehicles for free until Nov. 11.

Client Service Centres

• All ServiceOttawa Client Service Centres will be closed on Tuesday. Counters are located at Ottawa City Hall (110 Laurier Avenue West), Ben Franklin Place (101 Centrepointe Drive), Orléans (255 Centrum Boulevard), and Metcalfe (8243 Victoria Street).
• The Provincial Offences Court at 100 Constellation Drive will be closed on Nov. 11.
• The Business Licensing Centre on Industrial Avenue will be closed.
• All Employment and Social Services offices will be closed on Tuesday.
• The City of Ottawa Archives and Gallery 112 at the James Bartleman Centre will be closed.
• The City of Ottawa’s Spay and Neuter Clinic on Concourse Gate will be closed on Tuesday.

Green bin, recycling and garbage collection

• All curbside green bin, recycling, garbage and bulky item collection will follow the normal collection schedule on Tuesday.
• Multi-residential garbage containers will be collected on the regular scheduled day. The Trail Waste Facility landfill will be open on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Other City of Ottawa services

• All community, recreation and cultural facilities will be open Tuesday.
• Ben Franklin Place, Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe, The Barbara Ann Scott Gallery, City Hall Art Gallery and Karsh-Masson Gallery will be closed on Remembrance Day.
• All Ottawa Public Library branches will be closed on Tuesday.
• All municipal child care centres will be closed on Remembracne Day.
• The Site mobile van will operate from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
• The Ottawa Public Health Sexual Health Clinic and satellite clinics will be closed.
• Dental clinics will be closed.

Canada Post

There will be no Canada Post delivery on Tuesday.

Post offices operated by the private sector will be open according to the hours of service of the host business.

Service Canada

All Service Canada and Passport Services offices in Ottawa and across Canada will be closed on Tuesday in observance of Remembrance Day.
