Porter Airlines launches non-stop service between Ottawa and western Newfoundland

Travellers can now fly non-stop between Ottawa and Deer Lake, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Porter Airlines launched the new seasonal route on Thursday, with four weekly round trips between the Ottawa International Airport and the Deer Lake Regional Airport.

“Porter Airlines’ new non-stop service between Ottawa–Gatineau and Deer Lake is an exciting addition to our growing network,” said Joel Tkach, vice president of business development and marketing at the Ottawa International Airport Authority.

“As Porter continues to develop YOW as a primary hub, this route blends connectivity with convenience. It links passengers from across Canada and the U.S. to the renowned outdoors of western Newfoundland, including Gros Morne National Park, while also bringing Newfoundlanders to Canada’s Capital Region and beyond.”

Officials with the Deer Lake Regional Airport Authority say the new flight “strengthens western Newfoundland and Labrador’s connectivity.”

“It supports tourism by making our region more accessible to visitors, while also providing residents with efficient options for business travel and visiting family and friends,” Tammy Priddle, president and CEO of the Deer Lake Regional Airport Authority, said in a statement.

“Importantly, it opens the door to seamless connections across Porter’s expanding network, including direct access to key western Canadian destinations like Edmonton and Calgary.”

Porter will use its Embraer E195-E2 aircraft for the flight, which carries up to 132 passengers.

The seasonal route will end in early September.
