The province’s police watchdog is investigating after a man was seriously injured while being arrested in a Prescott parking lot. Ontario Provincial Police say officers took an individual into custody on Prescott Centre Drive shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday. “During the police interaction, the individual sustained an injury and was transported to the hospital,” OPP say. OPP did not provide additional details and referred questions to Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU). In a statement, the SIU says OPP officers sought to arrest a 43-year-old man based on outstanding warrants. After locating the man in a hotel parking lot, the SIU says he attempted to flee. He was arrested and taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a serious, but non-life threatening injury. The SIU says it aims to complete its investigation to determine whether there was any police wrongdoing in 120 days. The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates incidents involving police officers that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
