Parent faces extra 14 days of rental fees after G2 driver stopped for stunt driving in rental car, Ottawa police say

An Ottawa parent who loaned a rental vehicle to their 17-year-old son for a quick spin will be facing 14 extra days of rental fees after the G2 driver was stopped for stunt driving in the capital.

The Ottawa Police Service’s Traffic Escort and Enforcement Unit says an officer observed a vehicle going 145 km/h on Limebank Road on Monday.

The speed limit is 80 km/h on Limebank.

“Any parent(s) considering ‘loaning’ a rental vehicle to your 17-year-old G2 licensed son for a quick spin (that involves doing 145 in the 80 km/h zone on Limebank); consider the cost of a stunt charge,” police said on X.

The charge of stunt driving includes a 30-day license suspension, and the vehicle is impounded for 14 days.

“Extra 14 days worth of rental fees while impounded,” police said.

Driver stopped on Hwy. 417

Ontario Provincial Police say a driver is facing a stunt driving charge after being stopped speeding 54 km/h over the speed limit on Highway 417 near Eagleson Road.

Police say the driver was stopped going 154 km/h on Monday.

The driver received an immediate 30-day driving suspension and the vehicle impounded for 14 days, according to police.

“The driver now faces a minimum $2,000 fine, six demerit points, and a one-year driving suspension upon conviction,” the OPP said.
