Ottawa police catch drivers with stunt driving convictions going 60 km/h over the limit

Ottawa police laid stunt driving charges against a pair of drivers who had previously been convicted of travelling at dangerous speeds on the road.

Police say they laid charges against a 24-year-old motorist going over 60 km/h above the speed limit on Tuesday.

The OPS Road Safety & District Traffic Units says the driver was doing 132 km/h where the speed limit is 70 km/h on Conroy Road.

The driver had previously been convicted of stunt driving.

“Apparently a previous Stunt Driving conviction (in 2022) wasn’t enough to ‘drive the message home,’” police said.

Another driver with a previous stunt driving conviction was caught in Orléans Wednesday.

Police say a 34-year-old driver was clocked doing 61 km/h over the 60 km/h posted limit on St. Joseph Boulevard near Taylor Creek.

“Yet another driver with a previous Stunt Driving conviction (2021) putting their ‘need-for-speed’ over public safety,” police said.

Stunt driving charges come with an automatic 30-day licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impound. Convictions come with additional fines, demerit points and possible jail time.
