Ottawa issues overnight parking ban from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

A significant snowfall hit the capital, and the city has issued an overnight parking ban to clear streets. CTV’s Austin Lee has the story.

The City of Ottawa has issued an overnight parking ban for city streets, with significant snow expected today and tonight.

A snowfall warning is in effect for Ottawa, calling for 15 to 20 centimetres of snow.

The city announced an overnight winter weather parking ban will be in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday to assist with snow-clearing operations.

During a winter weather parking ban, only vehicles with on-street parking permits are permitted to park on the streets. Vehicles violating the parking ban may be ticketed and towed.

A winter weather parking ban covers all roads across the City of Ottawa, and is an “unsigned offence,” according to Bylaw Services.

The city says drivers can park at OC Transpo park and rides and select recreation centres during the winter weather parking ban.

Bylaw Services officers issued 16,053 tickets to vehicles parking on city streets during the three winter weather parking bans during the winter of 2024-25. The fine for violating the winter weather parking ban is $125, with an early payment option of $105.

The City of Ottawa says some commercial main streets will be exempt from the winter parking bans.
