Ottawa police say a man is facing charges after driving way above the posted speed limit while impaired. Police say officers conducting a proactive traffic enforcement in the Carp area on June 30 stopped a vehicle going 112 km/h in the posted 60 km/h zone. The driver was given a roadside breath sample and failed the test. On further analysis, the driver was found to have readings of 340 and 320 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood – about four times the legal limit. The driver was charged was arrested and charged with impaired driving and stunt driving due to the excessive speed. “This incident is a stark reminder of the risks posed by impaired and high-risk driving behaviours. Driving at extreme speeds while impaired creates an immediate and serious danger to everyone on the road,” Ottawa police said in a social media post. During a traffic enforcement initiative last week, police caught three stunt drivers, including one who was charged for the same offence five months ago. Between the start of the year and June 10, police laid 391 impaired-driving charges, an increase from the previous year in which police laid 327 charges throughout the same period.
