Environment Canada has issued a red warning for a severe thunderstorm for parts of southern Alberta. In an alert issue just before 5 p.m., the federal weather agency says an “extremely dangerous thunderstorm” is located over Willow Creek Provincial Park and is moving east at 30 km/h. The warning covers the Municipal District of Willow Creek, Vulcan County, and the County of Lethbridge. The storm tracked east through Barnwell just before 7:30 p.m. Several people across the region reported seeing marble-sized hail pummel the area as the storm. Driving conditions will be difficult and buildings and/or trees could be destroyed, while large hail could also cause significant damage or injury, Environment Canada says. People are advised to take immediate cover if a thunderstorm approaches.
