The Ottawa 67’s are off to a perfect start in the playoffs, holding off the Kingston Frontenacs for a 4-3 win in Game 2 Sunday afternoon at TD Place. The victory gives Ottawa a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven first-round series, building on their dominant 7-4 performance in Game 1. After an offensive explosion to open the series, Game 2 brought a tighter, more physical playoff-style battle but the result was the same. Ottawa jumped out early and carried a 2-1 lead after the first period before pulling ahead 4-1 in the second off Thomas Vandenberg’s second goal of the game. Kingston pushed back late, scoring twice in the third, but the 67’s held on down the stretch to secure the win. Prior to puck drop, fans filled with excitement and optimism seeing their team back in the playoffs and leading the series. Guy Proulx, who attended Game 1 and 2, says the atmosphere inside TD Place is undeniable. “The energy was great; the crowd was right in it and the players were right in it. It was starting to get a bit rough, playoff hockey for sure,” he says. That buzz following a high-scoring Game 1 had already set expectations for the series. “Hope that it’s going to be a high-scoring game like the last one,” said Greg Evraie before the game. While Sunday didn’t quite match the offensive output, it delivered something just as important for fans – a hard earned one goal win. With back-to-back victories on home ice, the 67’s head on the road with momentum and a chance to take full control of the series in Kingston. Game 3 takes place on Tuesday.
