OPP investigating reported bomb threat at Prescott, Ont. school

A Catholic school in Prescott, Ont. reopened to students Monday afternoon following a bomb threat, according to police and the school board.

Ontario Provincial Police said officers responded to a reported threat at St. Mark Catholic School on McAuley Street just before 10 a.m.

“The school is in a ‘hold and secure’ status and some students remain on their buses,” the OPP said. “While it is believed there is no actual threat to safety, the OPP will conduct an investigation.”

Police are asking people to avoid the area around the school while police investigate.

The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario told parents and guardians that the school received a bomb threat on the school voicemail. Students were taken to an off-site location at South Grenville District High School.

In an update Monday afternoon, the board said students were “safe to return to school.”

“We have worked in partnership with OPP and have thoroughly investigated this morning’s threat to the school,” the board said.

“Students will be returning to St. Mark on school buses shortly and will resume their regular schedule for the remainder of the day. We appreciate your cooperation and patience during this time. We sincerely appreciate the support of the OPP in keeping our school communities safe.”

The OPP says police have cleared the scene and the investigation into the threat continues.
