OPP charge female teacher aide with sexual assault on teenage boy

Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 33-year-old female "educatrice" or qualified teaching aide with sexual assault and sexual exploitation.  Annie Carrière-Coté of Alfred-Plantagenet appeared in court earlier this week to face the charges.

Pierre Dubois with the OPP in Hawkesbury tells CTV Ottawa that Carrière-Coté was employed at the Catholic High School in Casselman.  Dubois says the boy’s family came forward with a complaint to the boy’s school in early September which is when the police investigation began.   Carrière-Coté was released on a Promise to Appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on October 22, 2014.

Carrière-Coté is a "qualified teaching aide" at the school, says a spokesperson for the Board. Aides assist teachers in class, dealing with students with special needs or have behavioral issues, he says.

Carrière-Coté has been assigned by the Board to work from home.

The charges follow another case involving a female teaching assistant in Ottawa.  Police there charged 44-year-old Katherine Kitts with sexual assault and sexual exploitation, alleging she was involved in a two-year sexual relationship with a teenage boy who was 15-years-old at the time of the offence in 2011.  The teen’s mother came forward, prompting an investigation. Kitts has been put on leave from her job with the Ottawa Carleton District School Board.
