Minor earthquake felt northeast of Gatineau

A 3.1-magnitude earthqauke was reported near Buckingham, Que., north of Gatineau, Monday, May 9, 2011.

A minor earthquake was reported in west Quebec Monday morning.

Natural Resources Canada confirms a 3.1-magnitude earthquake was felt about 83 kilometres northeast of Gatineau at about 10:45 a.m.

The earthquake occurred near Buckingham, in the Western Quebec Seismic Zone, which experiences several small earthquakes each year.

There are no reports of damage or injury.

The earthquake is considered small, especially when compared to the massive 9.0-magnitude earthquake that hit Japan in March.
