Mild fall expected in Ottawa with possible ‘abrupt transition’ to winter

Ottawa is set to enjoy a mild fall, but there could be a “more abrupt transition into early winter” in the capital and across Ontario.

The Weather Network released its Fall forecast on Wednesday, calling for above-seasonal temperatures and “near-normal” precipitation for Ottawa and eastern Ontario this fall.

“For the heart of the fall season, from mid-September through October, warmer-than-normal temperatures are forecast to dominate across the province, including London, Toronto, and Ottawa,” the Weather Network said on its website.

“In addition to the mild temperatures, we expect more sunshine and fewer than the typical number of fall storms through October.”

However, the Weather Network says a “more active pattern” of weather is expected across Ontario in November.

“Mild temperatures are expected to persist into November, but we are closely watching the potential for a more abrupt transition into early winter,” the Weather Network said.

Environment Canada’s three-month forecast calls for above-seasonal temperatures and normal precipitation levels over the next three months.

Ottawa experienced four straight months of below seasonal rainfall through the spring and summer.

A total of 48.2 mm of rain was recorded in Ottawa in August, down from the normal rainfall of 85 mm. It was Ottawa’s driest August since 2002.
