‘In a hurry to get home’: OPP catch Nova Scotia driver going 239 km/h on eastern Ontario highway

An Ontario Provincial Police officer hit the brakes on a driver from Nova Scotia going 129 km/h over the posted speed limit on Highway 401 in eastern Ontario.

The OPP said an officer conducting speed enforcement on Hwy. 401 in the Morrisburg area observed a driver going 239 km/h.

The speed limit on the stretch of Hwy. 401 is 110 km/h.

“The officer pulled the car over and escorted them off the highway,” the OPP said in a statement on X.

“The driver, who lives in Nova Scotia, was in a hurry to get home and regretted speeding.”

Police say the driver was charged with stunt driving, which includes a 30-day licence suspension in Ontario and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

Another driver was also charged with stunt driving after being observed going 156 km/h on Hwy. 401 in the same area.

The driver also faces a 30-day licence suspension and the vehicle impounded for 14 days.

Morrisburg is located between Brockville and Cornwall.
